The 2008 World Series of Poker began on June 9th, featuring several exciting events. Here are some of the key moments from the tournament:
Duncan "Pumper" Bell made headlines by winning Event 13, the $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em tournament. His impressive performance at the final table, where he defeated Steve Merrifield, earned him the championship bracelet. Bell’s victory netted him nearly $667,000, while Merrifield, the runner-up, took home $428,000.
David Oppenheim also made waves during the bracelet ceremonies. Although he entered the final table with a narrow lead, it was Eric Brooks who emerged victorious. Brooks, who was relatively unknown compared to other competitors like Minh Ly and Eric Seidel, won $415,856. In a generous move, Brooks donated his entire prize to the Decision Education Foundation, a cause he supports.
The Ladies No-Limit World Championship featured some notable players, including Kathy Liebert and Linda Johnson, who were both eliminated during the event. The final table saw Anh Le, a well-known poker player, facing off against Svetlana Gromenkova.
The other No-Limit events of the series were also a success, with many famous poker players participating and showcasing their skills.
