The roulette wheel is a symbol of glamorous casino leisure. Roulette is an easy game to pick up. Once you familiarize yourself with the wheel and the table, all you have to do is figure out what bet you want to make. When that is done, online roulette becomes a refreshingly simple game.
The Objective of the Game
The primary objective of playing roulette, whether in a physical or online casino, is to predict where the ball will land on the spinning roulette wheel. The wheel features numbered pockets ranging from 1 to 36, colored either red or black, along with one or two green pockets for the zeros (0 or 00, depending on the roulette variant).
Players place their bets on the table, predicting the exact number, color, or group of numbers where the ball will come to rest. The payout varies based on the type of bet placed, with higher payouts for less likely outcomes, such as predicting the exact number, and lower payouts for more likely outcomes, such as betting on red or black. The game's excitement lies in the chance and anticipation as the ball spins around the wheel, ultimately landing in one of the pockets.
How to Play
There are two types of bets in roulette: inside bets and outside bets. The same rules apply in both brick-and-mortar and online casino environments.
Inside Bets
Straight Up
A straight-up bet is a bet that's placed on a single number.
Split Bet
A split bet is a wager that covers two numbers. To place a split bet, you simply put your chips on the line that separates two adjacent numbers that you want to bet on. Additionally, you can make a split bet by placing your chips on the line between 0 and 1, 0 and 2, or 0 and 3.
Street Bet
A street bet is a bet that covers three numbers in a row with one wager. Street bets are made by
placing your chips on the outermost line of a number row. Street bets can also be placed on 0, 1, and 2 or 0, 2, and 3.
Corner Bet
A corner bet involves betting on any four touching numbers on the roulette table. To place a corner bet, you need to locate the intersection where four numbers meet and then place your bet on that intersection. It's also possible to make a corner bet on the intersection of 0, 1, 2, and 3.
Five-Number Bet
Players can place a five-number bet on 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. However, this is considered the worst bet on the wheel as it provides the house with the highest advantage. It's best to avoid five-number bets altogether.
Line Bet
You can place a line bet on six numbers by selecting two rows of three numbers and placing your bet on the corner where the two rows meet.
Outside Bets
Red or Black
This is an even-money bet.
Wagers are placed in the red box for red numbers and in the black box for black numbers
Odd or Even
This is also an even-money bet. Players select odd or even numbers to wager on.
Low or High
Another even money bet, the high or low wager allows players to cover low or high numbers with their
bet. Players can bet on the low numbers, 1 through 18 or the high numbers, 19 through 36.
Dozens
Dozens of bets are made to cover one of three possible sequences of 12 consecutive numbers. There are boxes on the table that correspond to each dozens option: numbers 1 through 12, 13 through 24, and 25 through 36. Dozens of bets pay 2 to 1, and players lose their bets when the wheel lands on zero or double
zero.
Columns
Column bets are also 12-number bets. Players decide which vertical column they want to cover with their
wager. Like the dozens bet, column bets pay 2 to 1.
